The Devils Walk

The Devils Walk is about the tyranny of sexual obsession. It tells the story of James Dorrell and follows his life from his birth in middle England in the 1950s, through his school days, his life at Oxford and as a Barrister.

Like all of us, Dorrell is not straightforward. On the one hand he is a successful lawyer with a reputation for defending both the defenceless and the seemingly indefensible. However he has a dark private life which eventually collides with his professional one, leading to his exile and loss of all that he has achieved.

Finding himself living in total isolation in Southern France, ravaged by a life-time of heavy drinking and tormented by the forces within – which he despises but cannot control – he draws ever closer to madness.

A chance encounter with a monk however, gives him the justification he needs to fight back; which he does, leading to catharsis but also his death.
